High Heaton Children's Centre

The works at High Heaton Children's Centre formed part of the City Council’s Children’s Centres and Extended Services Phase 3 Programme, with other similar buildings constructed for the same client by NCS at Grange First and West Denton.

This project involved close and open co-operation with the Client and design team from project inception to rationalise the scope of works in order to develop a programme that satisfied the requirements of the broad range of end users, whilst complying with budgetary constraints.

NCS were responsible for the demolition of an existing community use building and the subsequent construction of a single storey building to provide offices, WC’s, kitchen facilities and a range of meeting rooms for community use. In addition, the project included external works, play facilities, car parking and landscaping works.

The Children’s Centre is situated in a busy built up area, requiring careful planning and coordination of construction activities to minimise the impact and disruption to the neighbourhood. By working closely with the Client to fully understand and appreciate the project’s inherent challenges, Northern Construction Solutions were able to successfully hand over a high quality project, on time, within budget and without any safety incidents.

West Park Children’s Centre, Hull

Following a competitive tender, NCS were appointed as Preferred Contractor to develop the concept scheme and to achieve the Client’s requirements within budget. On completing this phase, a Design and Build contract was awarded.

The project was to provide a child care facility for staff and college students working at the new stadium, suitable for all ages of children from babies to pre-school. Also incorporated are public toilets and office facilities for park rangers. The building is designed to be compatible with the park land in which it is set and with the adjacent award winning Hull Stadium and Sports Arena. As well as an aesthetically pleasing appearance, a high standard of external and internal finishes were specified.

NCS were also awarded an additional contract for external works connected to the Stadium and Children’s Centre, including new roads, parking, a new ornamental garden and other hard and soft landscaping requirements.

Nunthorpe Primary School

The works comprised two single storey extensions to the front of the School to provide a new ICT Suite / Out of School Club classroom, school office, secure lobby, Head Teacher’s office, tea prep area and a single storey extension to the side of the School to provide a new lobby cloaks area and a covered external play / store area.

The project also comprised internal alterations and refurbishment of existing classrooms and ancillary areas to accommodate the re-allocation of teaching spaces and associated external works to provide new hard and soft playing surfaces and extensions / alterations to existing footpaths and car parking areas. The scheme involved close and open co-operation with the Client and the Design Team to ensure that all alterations to the original scope of works were accommodated whilst ensuring that the project was affordable and within an acceptable programme duration.

The works were carried out within a very busy and congested school environment, requiring careful planning and co-ordination of construction activities to minimise the impact and disruption to the School Users. By working closely with the Client to fully understand the project’s inherent challenges, NCS we able to successfully hand over a high quality project within budgetary and programme requirements and without any safety incidents.
